Take it easy, and rest up for the remainder of the day you miscarry.
As long as you feel up to it you can return to work, school, driving, and most other activities as early as the next day.
Keep physical work and exercise light for a few days. As the days go by, you should start to feel better and regain your energy.
You may feel tired during the days following your abortion. This is normal. Your hormones are changing as your body returns to its non-pregnant state. These hormone changes may make you feel emotional, nauseous, and have tender breasts. These symptoms should pass within a few days. Taking it easy and wearing a snug-fitting bra may help you feel more comfortable.
It is normal for cramps to continue on and off for a few days following your abortion. These should ease with time.
If you are concerned about your level of cramping or how long it has been going on, you can always call us.
It is normal to bleed and spot for up to 6 weeks after your abortion. Once the pregnancy tissue is removed you can use pads, tampons, a moon cup, or period undies, whichever is most comfortable for you, to manage the bleeding.
If you are concerned about your level of bleeding or how long it has been going on, you can always call us.
Everyone feels differently through and about and through their journey. For some, the experience of having an abortion can be very emotional.
How you process your emotions after an abortion is unique to you. Your feelings and emotions are your own. No one can tell you how you should or shouldn’t feel.
Everyone deals with having an abortion in their own way. There is no right or wrong way of processing how you feel. Whether you want to keep your mind busy or take time for yourself and pause, you need to do what is right for you. Take a walk, work out, meet with friends, journal – Take the time you need.
Talking about your journey with someone you trust in a safe space may help. This may be a partner, friend, family member, or someone else close to you. If you would like additional support, we can put you in touch with a counsellor who specialises in abortion care.
One of our nurses will call you the day after you miscarry to check in to see how you are and ask about your bleeding and cramps. They will also gather some extra information so that they can ensure you miscarried.
If you feel you would like to speak to a counsellor for additional support, our nurse can help arrange this during your chat.
Reach out online or call 0800 226 784 to speak to one of our nurses. We are here to support you every step of the way. This is your journey.
